I am honestly so obsessed with this piece, especially for the summer months. "Blue Jelly" is truly a gargantuan watercolor piece with all the movement and whimsy jellyfish are known for. I was originally inspired to create this painting after one of my oldest friends told me that jellyfish were her favorite animals and that she thought some of my other jellyfish pieces were really cool. I wanted to do something really impressionistic for this artwork; I wanted it to be less about representation and more about energy and movement.
The sweeping brushstrokes and wet-on-wet technique used in this piece are really my favorite parts, especially juxtaposed with tight, squiggly frills of white. And what better way to accent a monochromatic painting than to bring it to life with complementary gold leaf paint!
